Extractions

If you need an extraction of a tooth, we will either perform the extraction at our office or refer you to an oral surgeon depending on the difficulty or your specific case. If you desire general anesthesia, we will refer you to an oral surgeon who has the training to do administer it. At our office, we will use a local anesthetic to numb the area and may also prescribe an anti-anxiety medication before hand if you need it. Once the mouth is sufficiently numb, the tooth is removed usually without any discomfort or pain.

After the surgery you will need to rest. You can expect for the extraction site to bleed for a little while after the surgery. Gauze will be applied at the completion of the surgery, and you will need to change it when it becomes soaked. If bleeding continues for longer than 24 hours you should call your us. If we prescribed a pain medication or an antibiotic, take them as directed. You may also be advised to use an ice pack to reduce swelling and inflammation.

You will be limited to soft foods for a few days after your surgery, and will be given detailed instructions to care for your extraction site.
